Supplement Given to Polo Horses Incorrectly Made! Current Event

On Sunday April 19th, 21 polo horses died before the match. The horses on the Venezuelen Polo team were given supplements that caused their death. The were not legally allowed to bring this supplement into the United States so they had a pharmacy mix what they needed. Unfortunately it was mixed wrong and the horses that were treated with this died. 21 horses died before the match. The Florida Pharamacy that mixed the medication, said that "the strength of an ingredient in the medication was incorrect." The only horses that died were horses that were treated with the medication, and they died within three hours. Only five horses survived, and they were not treated with the medication. It is still not clear what exactly caused the death and things are still very confusing for everyone involved. The Pharmacy in Florida, could face criminal charges if they made the supplement that is dangerous and unsafe for animals.

  1. I was very sadden to hear about this, and I felt that it was not right for the people to give the horses lethal supplement. The mix of medications that was given the horses should never have been given to them. First of all the medication is illegal in the United States, so they should have never made it in. I agree with the fact that the pharmacy that is involved should face criminal charges. They were not careful with the job they were preforming and the horses got the worst of the results. These incident also makes the very weak polo popularity even worse because they lost one of the better teams because of this.

  2. Wow that is really shocking. That is really unfortunate that so many horses dies because some one failed to recheck a prescription. This is something that ends in a lose/lose situation. The horses have dies and now some one will be faced with criminal charges. People that work as a pharmacist have to go through several years of college, almost or even more then a doctor so when some one makes that kind of mistake it really should be looked into.

  3. This is a very shocking article to read and I cannot believe that the horse owners would give them mixed medications that they knew could possibly affect the horses. I am very against animal cruelty and this is definitely a major form of animal cruelty. This is very sad and I can't believe that these people would risk their horses lives when their profession relies on these horses. This article was very sad to read and people should not give their animals certain medications unless it's perscribed by the animal's doctor.
